Northwest ESL Volunteer

Help support immigrants in your community as they learn and practice English! Here are a few ways to get involved:

Classroom Volunteers

The ESL Ministry would not be possible without our dedicated classroom volunteers! You can either serve as a teacher/assistant teacher or help set up classrooms. Details below:

Teachers/Assistant Teacher

  • Help lead table discussions or provide class instruction
  • Are provided with training, materials, and curriculum
  • Serve 1–2 times per week (classes are held at Northwest every Monday and Thursday from 9:30–11:30am)
  • Must be Christian and involved in a local church (we are a Bible-based school)
  • Do NOT need to speak a second language
  • Do NOT need an ESL certification

Setup Volunteer

  • Help transition classrooms from Kids Ministry to ESL
  • Serve on Sundays after the 11am service

Conversation Volunteers

We invite our ESL students to connect with our church community, and a great way we can do this is through the Conversation Buddy Program. You can either serve as a Conversation Buddy or as a Conversation Group Leader. Details below:

Conversation Buddies

  • Are paired with one or two students in our ESL Class
  • Meet with their buddies to practice English and serve as a welcoming presence
  • Serve at least once a month
  • Coordinate their meeting times
  • Can be individuals, friends, or families serving together

Conversation Group Leaders

  • Facilitate a conversation group between 3–6 people once a week
  • Are provided with training and discussion questions
