Ecclesiastes 5:18-6:12

  1. Read Ecclesiastes 5:18–6:2. Verse 5:18 almost exactly mirrors two earlier verses in Ecclesiastes (2:24 and 3:13), indicating these words are important to the overall message of Ecclesiastes. What do you think they mean?
  2. Each time God is mentioned in Ecclesiastes 5:18–6:2 (six times in total), it is always in relation to God giving. How does acknowledging that God is the Giver of whatever resources you have change the way you view and manage money?
  3. Read Ecclesiastes 6:1–6. Discuss some observations about the man described in this passage.
  4. Money demonstrates what you truly value. If somebody did an audit of your life and spending habits, what would they conclude about what you truly treasure?
  5. This passage (6:1–6) reminds us that our time on earth will come to an end. How should the inevitability of death reprioritize the way we value and spend our money?
  6. Read Ecclesiastes 6:7–12. Select one of the questions raised in Ecclesiastes 6:7–12. What answer does God give in Scripture to this question?
  7. Spend a few moments going to God in prayer. Ask that He would make you so satisfied in Him that it frees you to steward your life and resources to better glorify Him and enjoy Him forever.
