Read Hebrews 4:12–13. In your own words, what is the main idea of this passage?
This passage begins with the word “for.” This connects the verses with something previously stated. What is the connection?
Read Hebrews 4:12 again. What do you think it means that God’s Word is living, active, and sharp? Talk about these three descriptions of God’s Word.
What types of “thoughts and intentions of the heart” (Hebrews 4:12) do people generally try to keep hidden? What sins do you find yourself most resistant to being honest about?
When you gaze at God’s Word, His Word gazes back. Hebrews 4:13 says, “No creature is hidden from his sight, but all are naked and exposed to the eyes of him to whom we must give account.” Spend some time reflecting on how this verse makes you feel, then pray with one another, being completely honest with God and each other.
