Hebrews 1:4-14

  1. Read Hebrews 1:3–14. From this passage, what do we learn aboutJesus, and what do we learn about angels? Make as many observations as you can.
  2. Read Deuteronomy 33:2, Hebrews 2:2, Acts 7:53, and Galatians 3:19. What specific role do these passages ascribe to angels? Thinking back to the previous two sessions, how does Jesus do what angels did—but better?
  3. Jesus is better than angels. This seems like a simple fact. It also might seem like a strange way to begin Hebrews. But consider this:like everything in creation, angels are not God. And while you might not be tempted to worship angels, what in creation are you tempted to worship? What do you elevate above Jesus? What people, positions, or possessions are you regularly tempted to idolize? Be honest, and try to be specific.
  4. Read Revelation 5. This chapter depicts a future vision of worship with angels and people gathered around the throne of God. After reading, spend some time in prayer together.
Confess — Be honest with God and one another about how you have elevated specific things to satisfy in your heart what only God can.
Petition — Ask God for help where you feel weak and tempted.
Worship — Give God glory, because He is truly worthy of all praise.
