Read Hebrews 11:32–40. Hebrews 11:32 places one of the most significant characters in the whole Bible, King David, next to five significantly less prominent people. What does it tell us about God’s values that these five are honored here just as much as David?
Seeing the faith of those who have gone ahead of us strengthens our own faith. When we see ways that God was with them, we have hope that God will be with us. Besides Jesus, who is someone in the Bible or church history whose life strengthens your faith and hope when you think about them? Discuss.
Many Christians give little thought in their daily lives to the future God has promised for them in eternity. How does thinking about the future promised by God change the way you live day to day?
What does it look like to live for something bigger than yourself? How are you living your life now in a way that will have significance even after your death?
Hebrews 11:13 says of our forebearers, “These all died in faith…” That is our goal—to die in faith. What does it look like to live a life of faith like our forebearers? What does it look like to die well?
What is your hope for those who will come after you? What sort of legacy of faith do you want to leave behind?
