What is wisdom and how do you get it? Who is the wisest person you have ever known?
Read From David to Solomon and An Overview of Solomon. What stands out to you about King Solomon? Discuss both the positive and negative aspects of his life, reign, and anything else you know about him.
Read 1 Kings 3:5-14. Why do you think Solomon's request was pleasing to God?
Solomon's wisdom shaped his leadership and brought peace and prosperity to the kingdom of Israel. Do we still see wisdom as a mark of good leadership today? If not, what kinds of qualities do people admire most in leaders now?
Read 1 Kings 11:1-10. This passage emphasizes Solomon's foreign wives. How can relationships shape or compromise our faith? What boundaries did Solomon fail to maintain, and what might that look like in our own lives?
Jesus says, "For where your heart is, there your treasure will be" (Matthew 6:1), warning that our hearts will follow whatever we value most. To know what we truly value, we must take an honest look at the things we give our attention, time, money, and imagination to. Like Solomon, whose heart was slowly drawn away by divided affections, are there things in your life that might be quietly eroding your devotion to and wholehearted love for God? Spend some time honestly discussing this question with each other, and then go to God in prayer for one another.
