Hebrews 2:1-4

  1. Read Hebrews 2:1–4. What is the specific warning in this “warning passage”?
  2. Do you personally know anyone who has seemingly drifted away from faith in Jesus? Who? Can you think of any common reasons people give for “drifting away” from Jesus?
  3. Hebrews 2:1 states that “…we must pay much closer attention to what we have heard….” What do you think that means? Practically, how do we pay much closer attention?
  4. Drifting from faith often unfolds incrementally. It happens slowly, before it happens completely. Habits that dull your heart and mind, you now excuse. Sins you once confessed, you now ignore. Friendships that once gave you life and accountability, you now neglect. Temptations you used to resist, you now indulge. The current can be almost unnoticeable, but it only flows in one direction: into danger. What comes to mind when you read this? Are there any sins you have been ignoring or excusing? In what ways have you neglected Jesus and not paid attention to God’s Word? Does anyone want to bring anything into the light today, whether big or seemingly small.
  5. Read Jude 17–25. Spend some time in prayer, letting the words of this passage guide your time. Confess any sin or unbelief that came to light as you studied. Ask for help. Pray for yourself, and pray for anyone you know who has drifted away.
