1 John 2:12–17

1. Can anyone share about a time when your faith felt weak. What circumstances led you to that place? What, if anything, pulled you out of it?
2. Read 1 John 2:12–14. Why do you think John is addressing different groups of people? With which group would you identify and how does what John says to your group make you feel and why?
3. Look at the specific promises John offers to each group of people in 1 John 2:12–14. In this season of your life, which of these gospel promises do you feel like you need to be reminded of most? Explain.
4. How content are you with the season of life God has called you to right now? What are some of the unique joys and difficulties about being in the season you are in?
5. What aspects of the gospel or promises from God’s Word do you need to be reminded of in light of the season of life you’re currently living through?
6. Read 1 John 2:15–17. What do you think John means by each of these categories of worldliness he lists in 1 John 2:16:
   • “The desires of the flesh”
   • “The desires of the eyes”
   • “The pride of life”
7. 1 John 2:17 says, "And the world is passing away along with its desires, but whoever does the will of God abides forever." If you truly believed that everything the world has to offer you right now is in the process of passing away, what would you do differently tomorrow? How could that energize you to do God's will rather than your own?
8. Spend some time in prayer with one another. Thank Him for His many precious promises. Ask that He would help you receive whatever season you’re in as a gift, and that the specific promises you need to hear would become precious to you.
