Hebrews 1:1-2

  1. Read Hebrews 1:1–2. This passage begins with the idea that God is a God who speaks. God is under no obligation to speak, and yet He does speak. Why is it good news for us that God is a God who speaks? What does it say about our God that He desires to communicate with us?
  2. Throughout your study of Hebrews, God is going to reveal many glorious aspects of who He is. But what is your view of God today? Spend some time reflecting on these seemingly simple questions: Who is God? What is He like? And how do you know?
  3. Read Hebrews 1:1–2 again. Considering the remarkable ways God spoke in the Old Testament prophets, what do you think the author of Hebrews is attempting to demonstrate by contrasting how God previously spoke and how God has now spoken through His Son?
  4. Many people to whom the author of Hebrews was writing were tempted to leave the faith. Why? Holding fast to Jesus was harder than they expected. The old ways were easier. If you can be honest with yourself, do you sometimes feel your hope beginning to waver? Is there anything happening in your life right now that is causing you to question whether or not God will be faithful to you in your circumstance? What is it?
  5. Take a moment to pray together. Ask God to open your hearts to hear Him speak through His Word as you journey through the book of Hebrews. Pray and ask that by the end of your time in Hebrews, you will see and know and love Him better than ever before.
