Hebrews 7:11-28

  1. Read Hebrews 7:11-14. According to this passage, what were some of the insufficiencies of the Levitical priesthood?
  2. Read Hebrews 7:15-25. According to this passage, what is distinct about the Melchizedekian priesthood, and what makes it superior to the Levitical priesthood? See Hebrews 7:16-17 for help.
  3. Hebrews 7:22 says “Jesus is the guarantor of a better covenant.” What is the better covenant the author is talking about? For help, read Luke 22:19-20 and John 14:6.
  4. Compare and contrast the old covenant with the new covenant. How is the new covenant better than the old? Read Hebrews 7:22-25.
  5. Read Hebrews 7:25 again. This verse is the climax of an argument the author has been building over several chapters. Look at the verse. Think deeply about every word. What does this verse mean? Discuss.
  6. In closing, read Hebrews 7:26-28. Meditate on each quality stated or described in this passage. Thank Jesus, your Savior and Great High Priest, that He is indeed each one of those qualities. Praise Him that “He always lives to make intercession for you” (Hebrews 7:25).
