Dr. Jon Bergeron attended college at Taylor University in Upland, Indiana where he met and married his sweetheart Shelly over 25 years ago. After surviving graduate school at University of Texas Southwestern in Dallas and one year of postdoctoral training in College Station, Jon worked for 10 years in a private psychology practice. For several years, he worked as a speaker, trainer, and content developer in the foster care and adoption arena. During this time, he also provided consultation and supervision to The Austin Stone Counseling Center, eventually joining our staff full-time in 2015.
Dr. Bergeron is passionate about providing scientifically informed, theologically rooted care to clients. He provides counseling and consultations for a wide variety of issues in adolescents, adults, and couples. His focus of practice includes anxiety, depression, marriage, parenting, adoption and foster care, men’s issues, addictions, trauma, and attachment. Dr. Bergeron sees clients ages 16 and up.
Soon after finishing his training, Jon and Shelly felt the call to become foster parents, which led to the adoption of their son, Tanner, who is deaf with additional special needs. In May of 2010, they received a second calling to adopt internationally and in record time adopted a deaf boy from China. Jon and Shelly live in South Austin. Jon and Shelly also serve in The Austin Stone South Campus' Deaf Ministry by helping to provide interpreting and teaching in ASL.
