Quick Info:

Married to Angela

Children:

Who is your hero?
John Piper-he has been tremendously influential in Halim's life in developing his theology and his desire to live holy.

What do you drink at Starbucks?
usually orders a green tea (healthy) and puts 5 packages of honey in it (not so healthy).

If Halim could spend an evening with anyone who lived within the last 1000 years, he'd spend it with Jonathan Edwards. "A God entranced vision of all things is what I strive for and I believe that Jonathan Edwards grasped it more than most. He labored over language and over images and metaphors because he was so stunned and awed at the realities he saw in the Bible. His mantra to glorify God by enjoying Him forever makes my heart swell with intoxicating sobriety." “The enjoyment of God is the only happiness with which our souls can be satisfied. To go to heaven, fully to enjoy God, is infinitely better than the most pleasant accommodations here. Fathers and mothers, husbands, wives, or children, or the company of earthly friends, are but shadows; but God is the substance. These are but scattered beams, but God is the sun. These are but streams. But God is the ocean” ( Works, II, 244).

Favorite Bible verse:
the Book of Romans (which, sadly, we don't have the space to put here...but read it; it is GOOD)

Life Story

Unlike most Christians I am not able to say the exact moment in which I became reconciled to God. This, however, does not hinder me from any assurance that I am a regenerate child of God. I have full assurance because even as I write, God’s spirit testifies with my spirit that I am God’s child. Growing up in the church created an atmosphere in my life in which I never questioned the things of God. I always knew that the Light had come to this dark world. But like the dark world, my dark heart did not comprehend the Light.

I was not absent from hearing the message of the cross; I could’ve said the gospel backwards and forwards at the age of 6. I even prayed the prayer of salvation, asking Jesus to come into my heart. But each time that I prayed it, for I prayed it much, my words were an overflow of a dark, uncomprehending heart. It was not until the late high school years and especially the early college years that God began to pierce me with His truth. Just as He commanded for the Light to shine out of darkness, He shone in my dark heart, the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ.

It was this face of Christ that shone with God’s glory that changed my life radically. For the longest time my dark heart couldn’t comprehend it, but all of a sudden with a mere word from God, that Light shined and I was able to grasp the love of Christ. A certain time and a place in which this took place? I don’t know. God acted with His word in my heart, and I was not able to tell that He did until the fruits started to grow. Though I was in rebellion towards God and was His enemy, God demonstrated His perfect love towards me in that when I was in that state, Christ died for me. Through His death I have been justified, and through His life I am being sanctified. And I long for that day when I will be glorified.

Vision for The Austin Stone

My vision for ASCC is that we develop believers who love God with all their heart, mind, soul, and strength; and who love their neighbor as themselves… upon these depend the whole law and the prophets. (Matt. 22:37-38) I pray that until the Bridegroom returns, He will find His Bride faithful, seeking to find all of our longings and satisfactions in Him alone.
