The Elders are currently in the process of reevaluating and contextualizing the role of deacon to best serve our growing church.
At the end of this process, the new deacon structure as well as an updated list of actively serving deacons will be posted .
Role of Deacons in the Church
Vision
We hope to be a New Testament church existing for the supremacy of the name and purpose of Jesus Christ. Since deacons played an important role in New Testament churches, we plan for them to do so at The Austin Stone.
Beginnings
Deacons were the selfless servants of the early church, pouring out their lives for the needy and for the sake of the gospel. In fact, the first martyr, Stephen was a deacon of the church in Jerusalem. You can read about his sacrifice in Acts 6.
Servanthood
Our deacons are responsible for carrying out the vision of the elders and for helping care for those who have spiritual, physical, or emotional needs.
