Every one of us struggles. Each one is broken. Recovery at The Austin Stone is for everyone who is willing to have God begin to heal the damage done to them, the wounds they have inflicted on others and the lies they have believed about themselves. Recovery is a God centered program that addresses many issues like anger, lust, substance abuse, fear, shame, addiction, codependency, eating disorders, pornography, abuse, homosexuality, and depression. Within the framework of the traditional twelve steps, we will encounter Christ, working through Biblical principles, applying these principles to our lives, and allowing God to change and to heal.
Recovery is a safe place to step out of darkness and into the light to allow God's grace to change our hearts; not an easy road but a sweet one when you get to the other side. It is also a safe place to finally share things we have kept hidden with people who are walking similar roads.
Each week there is a time of large group worship and teaching together, which is a great entry step for anyone considering this community. Following this time, everyone is encouraged to participate in a gender specific small group to share personal struggles and learn from one another within the context of a safe and confidential environment.
Within Recovery, we offer a 16-week intensive discipleship study program. This study joins you with 7-8 other individuals of the same gender where you walk through the 12-step curriculum in a protected community, giving each person an opportunity to encourage and challenge one another. It provides a structure for walking daily with the Lord, focusing specifically on the personal relationship with Him. It also shows you how to come alongside others in a way that will help them understand walking with Christ. Although the step study group is a great tool to grow, joining a step study group is not a requirement for participation in Recovery.
