Advocating for Justice | Jeff McWhorter’s Documentary

The Austin Stone has been informed about a situation that many of us are unaware of going on here in Austin. We ask that you read the story below and consider if you would like to help in any way.

For my senior thesis at UT, I made a 10-minute documentary about young men

growing up with incarcerated fathers in East Austin. One of the young men (14 yrs

old),with whom I spent a lot of time, was incarcerated himself last week for house

burglaries. (He was caught on webcam, maybe you heard about it). Anyhow, some

of the crimes were unjustly pinned on his older sister because he used her car. She

went to jail, and has gotten out, but she and her mother are really struggling to come

up with money to pay an attorney to get the charges off. Also, there is a risk that

they could get evicted because Booker T, where they live, does not like trouble in the

neighborhood. This would really, really put her in a bad spot.

His mother works hard ather job as a waitress to provide for the family (4 kids in the

house)and show a good example of honest labor. She loves the Lord and is trusting

him through all of this but is understandably pretty distraught.

Please email Chelsea Schuchard if you would like more information on how you can help.

Help Bring Disaster Relief

The Austin Stone is partnering with the Austin Disaster Relief Network (ADRN) to help build a network in greater Austin that will organize, mobilize and connect the body of Christ quickly in order to meet the emotional, spiritual and physical needs of those affected by disaster.

The City of Austin and Red Cross have asked the local church (through ADRN) to manage all 88 public shelters in the city, when disaster strikes. This is huge! But it means we must prepare NOW. They have asked us to be prepared by this hurricane season. (roughly Sept. 1st)

The Austin Stone has chosen to adopt Reagan High School as our shelter, but in order to do that, we need volunteers to serve in that shelter. Our aim is to raise up 8 shelter managers and 24 shelter volunteers to become trained and ready BEFORE disaster strikes. At Red Cross’ request, a background check will be required.

Watch this video for more information!

Sign up to become involved at by clicking here. The Austin Stone’s first basic 2.5 hour Red Cross training is scheduled for Wednesday, July 8 from 6-9pm.

Not if, but when disaster is upon us…will we be ready?

The Gravity of the Summer Conference

The central idea of this conference is to make concrete the Christian’s role in the current spiritual state of the world.

The state of America, the state of the world, is in need of believers who joyfully get on board with the mission of God and spend their lives for the things that matter. On June 12-13 we’re having a Conference to address the urgency of this call of discipleship on our lives and to be a better equipped body for the task at hand.  We’re bringing in some of the best teachers and leaders to share the urgency as well as the practical’s of how to get in the fight. This conference will be a great tool to continue to train and equip all of us in making disciples for the Kingdom.

If we fail at making disciples we have missed the mark of the mission of Christ and clearly we have been succeeding at the things that did not matter. We all need to be fully enveloped in the call and task of disciple making. We want to ask you to continue to grow by joining us for this Conference to help us reset our focus on the non-negotiable mission we were left by Jesus Christ. Please consider making this conference a priority with us at the Austin Stone. You can find more information or register for the conference by clicking here.
