The Verge Conference

For three days in February leading thinkers and practitions of missional community will come to Austin, TX to share and teach from their own experiences, convictions, and lessons God has shown and taught them. Verge is a national conference involving people from many churches in Austin and beyond.

Come learn with others from across the nation as we listen to these leading thinkers and practitioners of Christ-centered missional community. Whether you are a leader of a group or serving team, or are simply interested in the redemption and renewal of your community, the Verge Conference will give you the tools to unleash a Christ-centered movement wherever you are. Speakers for the event include Francis Chan, Alan Hirsch, Dave Gibbons, and many others!

Regular conference registration is $99 (for three days of high-quality learning and powerful community with others who share your passion for impacting the world), but we're offering a discounted price to The Austin Stone of only $39!

We'd love for our missional community leaders or members, ministry leaders or volunteers, and anyone else from The Austin Stone to join us. Please don't come alone! TK Primer: Week 7 Discussion

Leader's Guide

1.       Debrief your party from Week 6. Use the first three questions on page 161 as a guide

2.       If your group didn't host a party, talk about why. What hindered your group from having the party?

         a.       Plan another time where your group will throw another party. The week before Thanksgiving       would be a great opportunity to have a Thanksgiving party.

3.       Now discuss what apprenticeship might look like for your particular community.

         a.       What is apprenticeship?

         b.      How is it different from discipleship?

4.       Do the activity together on page 160.

Leaders Note: There are several different ways you can do this activity:

  • Have each person take a couple of verses. Have them read the verses while thinking through how they might apply to your particular group. After a couple of minutes come back together and have each person summarize what they learned.
  • Split your group into smaller groups (2-3 people each). Give them a couple of verses to discuss together. Come back together as a large group. Have one representative from each group summarize what they learned.
  • Read through each verse as a whole group and discuss how they apply to your particular group.
  • Be creative and think of another way!!

5.       Read page 155.

         a.       Which are areas you need to grow [KEEP READING]

Week 5 & 6 TK Primer Video Interview

Hugh Halter and Stew give us an overview of week 5 & 6 of the TK Primer.

TK PRIMER: Week 5 Discussion

Leader's Guide

1.     Go through the exercises and questions on pages 112-113.

2.    Read together page 110.

3.    What are some practical examples of Leaving? Living Among? Listening?Loving?

Note to Leader: Challenge each person to think about their personal life. What are things they can do personally to express the gospel in each of these different areas?

4.    What were your experiences with the action step on page 5?

Note to leader: If there are group members who did not follow through with the action step, have your entire group do the action step over again this week. Continue doing this until every group member has followed through with the action step. These actions are an effort to apply what you have been learning through Scripture. The reason to hold your group accountableto these things is to challenge them to be doers of the Word, not merely hearers of the Word. The desire is for us to grow in our obedience to Christ and not just grow in knowledge. (See Matthew 28:16-20 and James 1:22-25.)

NEXT STEPS:

1.    Finish planning your party for next week.

2.    Ask your group members who they plan on inviting to the party.

Annual Partner Renewal

Missional Community Leaders,

We are grateful for your continued service to the body of The Austin Stone and your commitment to see the kingdom of God advance in this city. As a missional community leader you are the first responder to joy, celebration, hurt, brokenness, and restoration in our church body, and for that we are eternally grateful for you and the call of leadership God has placed on you. I wanted to take this time to make you aware of the Annual Partner Renewal process that we are currently involved in, and call you to evaluate for the fist time or reevaluate your heart and your call to partner with us here at the Austin Stone. It is our desire that all missional community leaders are pursuing partnership, and this is a perfect opportunity to make that happen.

Partnership Renewal is simply a means for our body to continue to pursue healthy relationships with God and one another over time, as well as ensure the integrity of our active partnership reporting. As people who have entered a covenant with our church, our partners are extremely important to the vitality and thriving of our body, and Partnership Renewal provides the leadership of our church the opportunity to love and serve the body as needs demand.

There are two things that you can do as missional community leaders that will help us facilitate the process of partner renewal

1.       Click the following link to renew YOUR partnership: http://bit.ly/4p5h9U

2.       As you communicate with your missional [KEEP READING]
