Church Under the Bridge
“Is this not the fast which I choose,
To loosen the bonds of wickedness,
To undo the bands of the yoke,
And to let the oppressed go free
And break every yoke?
Is it not to divide your bread with the hungry
And bring the homeless poor into the house;
When you see the naked, to cover them;
And not to hide yourself from your own flesh? ”
- Isaiah 58:6-7 (NASB)
Church Under the Bridge is a worship service for Austin’s homeless held under the I-35 bridge between 6th and 7th streets each Sunday. The Austin Stone partners with Church Under the Bridge by sponsoring the 1st and 3rd Sunday of each month, as well as by helping out at special events throughout the year.
The city of Austin has over 6,000 homeless; people looking for food, work, and shelter on its streets. Our hope is to make the person of Jesus known in and through the lives of Austin’s homeless by coming alongside them in their struggles and helping meet their physical and spiritual needs.
