Education
Reagan High School is on the brink of closing down unless their students are able to improve their test scores. The closure of the local high school would be a major blow to the community of St. Johns. There will be an information session to show how small groups from the local church have adopted teachers, freeing them to focus on their teaching and test preparations and how you and your small group could do the same. Adopting teachers will begin as the spring semester kicks off. Please sign up if you are interested to learn how you or your small group can be involved. We will keep you updated as January approaches and we will provide a more specific date/time/place.
This information session will also serve as training and is required to serve in this capacity.
The Austin school district has threatened to close Reagan High School (this has been in the local news for months). This would be a major blow the community of St. Johns, but this opportunity allows our Body to partner with this community as they rally in support of their teachers, faculty, students, and students’ families as they fight to do what it takes to keep the Reagan High school open and make it a successful tool for the community.
There are ten different strategic groups that have been established by the community to try to prevent closure. To get involved, sign up for one or more of these groups. Each group has a team leader who will be communicating future volunteer opportunities. To learn more about the specific ways that the school and community are looking for support in, click the sign up link below.

Austin LifeCare
Peer Counselors meet with Austin Lifecare clients to administer pregnancy tests, offer options counseling, and support services.
Austin Life Care is looking for individuals who are certified sonographers to help make sure this powerful tool is available to their clients.
9 out of 10 women who see a sonogram choose to carry their baby to term.
Austin Lifecafe’s PALS (Partners in Affirming Life) are volunteers who mentor women/girls during their pregnancy by staying in contact with them on a regular basis (phone, email or in person) to provide emotional and spiritual support. Share the love of Christ and provide these women the opportunity to live in community. In addition to spending time weekly with your mentee, there is an additional monthly meeting from 10am-12pm on the 2nd Tuesday of each month.
Hannah’s Closet provides maternity clothes, baby clothes, and infant items to mothers in need.
The Closet is overflowing but some moms wait for over a month for an appointment because there aren’t enough volunteers. More volunteers = more clothes given to mothers.

The goal of the Center is to help families to stabilize thus increasing children’s attendance at school and helping them to achieve their full potential. The specific role of the “promotora” or family mentor is to make home visits to the families (generally in teams of 2) in order to provide families with support and encouragement and to help families carry out the Plan of Support developed by the social worker or RN. Spanish speaking/bilingual skills are extremely helpful but not mandatory.

Sunday
AVLC (Audio, Video, Lights Camera) is the behind-the-scenes team that helps everything run smoothly during our Sunday worship services. They’re doing their job when you don’t notice them, and are enabled to worship God fully. The crew is made up of creatives, gamers, artists, coders, and just your average joe’s and johanna’s. Technical prowess is a plus but not a requirement; if you want to be a part of making Sunday’s happen and are willing to learn, you’re welcome on AVLC.
Greet and welcome guests on Sundays at The Austin Stone. Both small groups and individuals are needed. Greeters will welcome people at the main entrances of AHS and assist in ushering and passing out bulletins in the worship service.
Help direct the flow of traffic in and out of the AHS parking lot one Sunday a month. The current teams serve between the 9:30am and 11:15am services (from approximately 10:15-11:15). Additional people needed for these existing teams; new teams needed to coordinate traffic between the 5pm and 7pm services.
Volunteers are needed to help out with the reuse and recycling of bulletins after each of The Austin Stone’s Sunday worship services. Reusing "like-new" bulletins from earlier services helps the church cut down on the number of bulletins printed each week, and recycling the leftovers at the end of the day keeps them out of the landfill. Serving should take no more than 15 minutes before or after the service you normally attend, a few times a month. Sign up for specific details.
A total of four teams are needed each month to help turn Austin High School into a place where The Austin Stone can gather for Sunday worship. Set-up starts at 6am. Each team serves once a month.
A total of four teams are needed each month to help turn our sanctuary back into the Austin High School gym after the last service each Sunday evening. Tear-down starts immediately after the 7pm service (approximately 8:30pm). Each team serves once a month.
