Foster Care
Pathways, a local 501(c)3 foster care agency, is looking for people willing to spend time with foster children who are currently hospitalized. The visitors are assigned in shifts of varying lengths, usually a few hours at a time, and are asked to take a few short notes as they befriend the child. A background check and a short over-the-phone orientation are required.
While children are in the foster care system, they must always be in the care of someone who is certified or licensed by a foster care agency. Many foster families are in need of families willing to babysit or watch their foster children for an afternoon or evening. In order to serve foster families by babysitting their children for less than 8 hours at a time, a person must be CPR and First Aid certified and must complete the appropriate paperwork provided by the foster care agency. The Austin Stone will be hosting a CPR/First Aid training and overview of the babysitting process in January or February. Sign up to receive information.
Mentor a 4-8th grade student once a week at the child’s school during their lunch hour (Round Rock).
CASA volunteers ensure children don’t get lost in an overburdened legal and social service system. CASA volunteers commit to spending 15-20 hours per month on one case for at least one year. They research the case, talk with all involved and build a trusting relationship with the child. Volunteer advocates than make reports to the court based on what they believe is best for the child, helping the judge make the most informed decision possible by serving as the “eyes and ears” of the court. The scheduling of volunteer activities is flexible, and each volunteer is paired with a staff professional who supports and guides them every step of the way.

Many foster families are in need of families willing to babysit or watch their foster children for a few days or even a few weeks. In order to leave foster children with someone for this extended length of time (more than 72 hours), the babysitter must have gone through the entire foster care training and be a licensed foster care. This program serves several schools within Austin ISD. Austin Stone Community Church volunteers would be focused on mentoring students at Sims Elementary and Pearce Middle School (a school that closed for poor performance and reopened with new administration this fall).

Renovation Projects / Cleanups
The new church property on the corner of St. John’s Avenue & I-35 needs our help. The property has a propensity to collect various forms of trash on a regular basis. Recently, a company was hired to do a large scale sweep to remove everything on the property. What we would like to do now is maintain that cleanliness they provided.
This is a great opportunity for you to serve with your missional community to serve both the church and the city.
We are creating two teams that will go to the property once every three weeks to maintain the up keep until it opens in the fall of 2010. That means that if you choose this mission, it means you are committing to clean the property once every six weeks for about two hours on a Saturday morning.
We are currently creating a team of people who are interested in volunteering for future housing renovation projects in the St. John neighborhood. There are upcoming opportunities in a few empty houses which will need some renovation work in the near future. These projects would require standard construction skills such as swinging a hammer, painting, demolition, cleanup, possibly roofing…etc. Please click the link and fill out the form, we will send out more information of the actual events when they get finalized. As always thank you for your interest and efforts.

Sunday
AVLC (Audio, Video, Lights Camera) is the behind-the-scenes team that helps everything run smoothly during our Sunday worship services. They’re doing their job when you don’t notice them, and are enabled to worship God fully. The crew is made up of creatives, gamers, artists, coders, and just your average joe’s and johanna’s. Technical prowess is a plus but not a requirement; if you want to be a part of making Sunday’s happen and are willing to learn, you’re welcome on AVLC.
Greet and welcome guests on Sundays at The Austin Stone. Both small groups and individuals are needed. Greeters will welcome people at the main entrances of AHS and assist in ushering and passing out bulletins in the worship service.
Help direct the flow of traffic in and out of the AHS parking lot one Sunday a month. The current teams serve between the 9:30am and 11:15am services (from approximately 10:15-11:15). Additional people needed for these existing teams; new teams needed to coordinate traffic between the 5pm and 7pm services.
1 hour a month | DetailsA total of four teams are needed each month to help turn Austin High School into a place where The Austin Stone can gather for Sunday worship. Set-up starts at 6am. Each team serves once a month.
A total of four teams are needed each month to help turn our sanctuary back into the Austin High School gym after the last service each Sunday evening. Tear-down starts immediately after the 7pm service (approximately 8:30pm). Each team serves once a month.
We need individuals to host inside the sanctuary, and administrate and receive the offering each week at the end of service. Because this opportunity deals with receiving money from offering, we ask that you would be a Partner before considering this kind of service.

Next Generation
Our preschool ministry teaches our children the basic truths about God and His Word. If you have a passion for sharing Christ with those who don’t know Him and you love working with children, we would love to have you join our team. We have a particular need for teachers at the 11:15am and 5:00pm services, but could use more teachers at each of our services.
Our grade school ministry is designed to help leaders and kids build trusting relationships through small groups. Small group leaders spend each week getting to know their kids, leading them through discussion and activities based on our Bible lesson that day. We have a particular need for more men to help in this role, but we would also love to have more women leading with us as well.
