Halim explained on Sunday that sin entered the world when Satan tempted Adam and Eve by calling into question the goodness of God. One of the many consequences of their sin was a sense of shame and guilt, which caused them to feel the need to cover themselves with fig leaves. These leaves were not sufficient, they needed God to cover their shame and be clothed in righteousness. (Listen to the sermon.)
Genesis 3:1-10, 21-24
Why we sin:
- Make a list of recurring sin that you struggle with.
- For each item, ask yourself "What is it about the goodness of God that I do not trust in this situation?"
- Pray that God would allow you to trust Him in those specific places.
Consequence of sin:
- For each of things on your list, ask whether you feel a sense of guilt or shame over them.
- How do you try to cover up those sins outside of Jesus (i.e. ministry, over working, never saying no, composure, etc) ?
- Pray that Jesus would clothe you in righteousness, and that you would no longer run to earthly things in an attempt to cover yourself.
