A Church for the City

Building Project

After a long search, we found approximately 14.3 acres of property at St. Johns Avenue and IH 35 that will fit the needs for the next steps of our church. The estimated contract closing is at the end of 2008, pending platting and other official approvals. This later closing date gives us the opportunity begin design work in advance, saving money by shortening the time after closing that it will take before we could begin construction.

There will be many decisions to be made throughout the planning and design process. From the beginning, we have sought a wide range of perspectives and ideas. A range of teams of leaders in the church are working together have been an integral part of shaping the project. Together, we endeavor to move in alignment with the purpose and vision of our church as we seek wise answers to these decisions.

We are still very early in the planning process, but clearly the direction of the building design will be pointed to functionality. The purposes of space that we want to fulfill in this first phase of building will be:

  • Worshiping Christ through corporate services (worship center)
  • Teaching and equipping our next generation of disciples (children/youth space)
  • Training disciples to know Christ more and to make Him known (equipping space)
  • Cooperating with other organizations and people in Austin working for city-wide transformation (space and resource for non-profit and other like-minded organizations)
Our objective is to create a tool for the work of this church with space that is highly functional and flexible in use while being very cost-effective. This building will not be a monument to ourselves, but another space with which God uses our body to catalyze transformation of our city. So, it will be exciting, but in a no-frills kind of way. Don’t expect an ornate masterpiece. Tools are made to do work, not only to look at.
